movie title stills

i just stumbled onto the movie title stills collection, a site that exists to document (what else) movie title stills. for the life of me i can't stop scrolling through page after page of this thing. they've lovingly archived the title card from both the feature and the trailer, as well as the closing card from i don't know how many films from the 20s on up the present.

two of my personal favorite recent credit sequences both come from jason reitman films, thank you for smoking and up in the air. since the title sequence from up in the air isn't on the tubes yet (rent it from US as of TODAY!), you get the also very exceptional catch me if you can:

most awesomest 2009 posters

in addition to richard's list, and with few alternate version duplications, here's my list of posters that went above and beyond the call of duty to serve their films.

happily, i can report that almost all of these films ended up ranging from pretty good to straight-up incredible...

but fanboys on the other hand...

'Typeface' to be an official selection of the 2010 WFF

The full program for the Wisconsin Film Festival will not be available until March but 'Typeface' has already been chosen to be screened. The documentary centers on the impact that the amazing Hamilton Wood Type Museum has in the economically struggling town of Two Rivers, WI. As the directors put it, this is not only a film that will interest artists & graphic design enthusiasts but anyone interested in preservation & perseverance. It seemed as though Kartemquin was struggling to get this doc screened with no mention of a dvd release yet but with their up premiere in Chicago on the 29th and their inclusion into the WFF I think the release is in good hands.
